Tippin' Back the Corn
I've learned this tune from Lynn (chirps) Smith's version on his Down in Little Egypt CD. The tune was composed by Chicago fiddler Jordan Wankoff, and I post this with his permission. Jordan has a number of other projects.

As is likely the case for many people my age, the first version of this that I heard was by the Holy Modal Rounders. I'd never be able to do that version, nor can I recreate Charlie Poole's original version. Anyway, I put this up in celebration of having moved this group of tunes to a new server.Ha! just listened to it again. As you can tell the hardest part for me is that "Mooooving day!" at the end of the chorus. If I were a Holy Modal Rounder I'd say "Moo-A-Hoo-A-Hoo-vinDay".
Here I am at the office, waiting to leave to go to a dulcimer group at 7pm. Wait! I have a banjo. This is my version of Charlie Poole's version of Goodbye Sweet Liza Jane. I am in G on the Gold Tone. Sorry about the rumbles where the microphone got my exhales. Now everyone knows that I tend to hold my breath while playing.
I'm learning this from Steve--almost have it. He got it from the Christianson collection of Missouri tunes.
I first heard this on one of the early Robin & Linda Williams albums. They paired it with the Coo-Coo Bird.
For me, this has always been one of those tunes that sound easier to play than it is.
My rhythm is a bit smoothed out from what I have in mind, but it's a fun tune to play.

I learned this tune at a "Midwest Fiddle Tunes" workshop from Chirps Smith and Paul Tyler. I've simplified it, of course. I had learned it under the title "Old Plank Road" but the consenus on the Banjo Hangout is that it should be "Reel" not "Road".
