I've learned this tune from Lynn (chirps) Smith's version on his Down in Little Egypt CD. Cool tune. I haven't read much on it, but the Fiddlers Companion says it's in G rather than in A as I do it here. I worked out this version from hearing it done by Illinois fiddler Wayne Schell.

This was used as part of a rendition of "Train on the Island" sung by Joe Hickerson. Sara Gray provided a banjo backup, playing the tune of June Apple. It took me years before I made the connection.
