Well, I first heard this tune on Sara Grey's most recent CD,and I loved it. Then Mark Johnson posted a version with himself on fiddle and banjo, and I loved it again. So, I just had to play it.

Robinson County

I was browsing arond EZfolk and came across Michael Springer's version (on fiddle) of Robinson County. I had not heard the tune before and was captured by it. I see it's relatively well known, but it was new to me. So I have worked out a version on banjo. I'm not where I can get a capo, so this is played in C rather than in D.

Avalon Quickstep

I learned Avalon Quickstep in the early 1980s, partially from a contra dance record, partially from an LP by the group "Wry Straw" and mostly from Lyle K. with whom I would play it when ever possible during the summers of 1980-1983 (if I remember my dates correctly).

Rock the Cradle Joe

I learned this tune in the early 1980s from a physical anthropologist fiddler. The original version had a little more bounce than what I do.

For years I've played this tune as part of a medly in D (or C), usually consisting of some combination of "Rock the Cradle Joe", "West Fork Girls", this tune, "Avalon Quickstep", and "Ragtime Annie". With the help of the banjo hangout crowd I recovered the name.
