Here's a nice little Illinois tune. I learned it from Lynn "Chirps" Smith's version on Vol 2 of his home recordings, where he plays it on mandolin. I think the only written source is Dear Old Illinois, where it is tune number 251. A portion of playing the tune in our jam session. The lead fiddler is Steve Staley, the audible banjos are myself and Lyle Konigsburg, and there are many others having a good time with a new tune. My solo version and more information is here.

Here I am at the office, waiting to leave to go to a dulcimer group at 7pm. Wait! I have a banjo. This is my version of Charlie Poole's version of Goodbye Sweet Liza Jane. I am in G on the Gold Tone. Sorry about the rumbles where the microphone got my exhales. Now everyone knows that I tend to hold my breath while playing.

An Illinois tune. I don't have my copy of Dear Old Illinois with me at the moment so I cannot give further info on it. I've learned it from a combination of Clifford Harrison, Sean Barth, and Cathy Moore. It is on the Indian Delta Creek Boys Vol 1, and has the following information in the liner notes:RUSH AND THE PEPPER; (Key of D): Jesse James Abbott of rural Toledo said that he learned this hornpipe as a young boy in Missouri.
