I forget when I first heard this, but I had a great time relearning it in the Intermediate jam session at Midwest banjo camp in 2006. Alan Jabbour was the fiddler and leader, and Cathy Barton-Para had joined us after her singing jam had finished. It was one of the many musical high points I've had.

We played three "G" tunes, Barlow Knife, Ebeneezer, and Magpie.

I'm not sure why I did this, but it felt good to be playing this old pot again. I understand that this is usually not in G tuning--but this is where I've always played it.

This is on my bicentenial banjo after doing some renovation which vastly improved the playability. I also had just this day strung it up for the first time with Nylagut strings. Boy are they nice.

I used to do this in G tuning, but in the clawhammer forum on BanjoHangout someone mentioned that they always did it in double C (capoed to D). I tried it out, and I like it much more. I decided I'd try singing, although I don't remember the verses very well. My voice sounds nothing like I think it should.
