Well, I finally played this, inspired by a tune of the week on the banjo hangout. Imust have heard this years ago because it's on a Fuzzy Mountain String Band LP, but the first time I remember hearing it was by the Red Hots just a couple of years ago. Lots of different versiosn of this tune, and this is one of them.
I've learned this tune from Steve Staley, who plays it faster than I do. I do much fewer notes if I play along for dance speed. There are two versions of this in Dear Old Illinois, I think this one is closer to the one from Howard Sims.
This is the version played at our jam session. Actually, the second time through because I requested to play it again. I think there are 3 fiddles, 3 mandolins, 3 guitars, and 1 banjo.
